R1200GS Adventure Ride – Mendocino National Park
I left home a little later on Saturday morning and huled-ass just to get to route 16, to 20, and up to Elk Creek. I fueled at Elk Creek paying $4.89 a gallon, no big deal, just interesting. From there I took road 308 and a bunch of other non-paved roads all the way to Lake Pillsbury to camp for the night. One thing worth mentioning is that while riding in the middle of nowhere, a brown bear crossed the path about 30 yards from where I was…which freaked me out a little, and I did not stop the bike from that moment till I got to lake Pillsbury.
At Pillsbury lake I met John (caryandjohn.wordpress.com) who was riding his wife’s 2001 KLR, we had a little chat and John had to hit the road riding back to his campground at Stonyford.
All in all I was riding about 100 – 120 miles on un-paved roads, these roads were very easy and perfect for beginners or anyone who likes a calm easy ride trough the woods.
